David Michael is a Senior Partner of The Boston Consulting Group and is the Managing Director of the firm’s Greater China Practice. Mr. Michael first joined the firm’s Shanghai office in 1992 and has extensive experience in a wide range of business and operational challenges facing companies in China. He founded BCG’s Beijing office and is currently based there. Mr. Michael is also a leader of the firm’s Globalization practice, and recently authored a major report entitled “The New Global Challengers: How 100 Companies from Rapidly Developing Economies are Changing the World.” The report was the subject of a cover story in Business Week magazine. Mr. Michael has written on Asia business issues for Business Week, the Asian Wall Street Journal, The China Business Review, and in publications of the World Economic Forum. Mr. Michael is one of only three Westerners to serve on the Advisory Committee for Development Strategies of one of China’s largest state-owned enterprises. The committee members also include senior officials from SASAC, other central government bodies, and universities. In Beijing, Mr. Michael is a senior advisor to the Ullens Center for Contemporary Art, which is a major new non-profit Arts Center now under development in the largest former factory space in 798. Opening in late 2007, the Ullens Center will make a significant contribution to Beijing’s cultural scene, creating a major new destination, and providing a platform for global artistic exchange. Mr. Michael earned a BA in Economics Magna Cum Laude from Harvard University, and an MBA from Stanford University. Mr. Michael was a Rotary Scholar at the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 1989-1990, during which time he travelled extensively in mainland China. He is proficient in Mandarin Chinese. He lives in Beijing with his wife and three children. |
