I joined BCG Hong Kong as an Associate in 1998. I picked management consulting, and specifically BCG, because it promised me challenges, exposure to diverse industries and people, and a collegiate work environment. More than 8 years later, I can confirm that the promise is real and that I couldn't have made a better choice.

I have worked in telecommunications, airlines, sports drinks, spirits, pharmaceuticals, and elevators/escalators, among other industries. Casework has included market entry strategies, branding, pricing, portfolio strategies, supply chain work, e-commerce, customer retention, post-merger integration, and just about every important item on a CEO's agenda. The impact of our work is tremendous, often guiding the way our clients conduct their businesses in China, and directly affecting hundreds of millions of consumers.

My role in case teams is always evolving, but one thing remains unchanged – the work environment is non-hierarchical and fun. Associates, even fresh out of college, are encouraged to speak up, and their viewpoints are given the same consideration as those of the senior people in the team. I work closely with Partners and Senior Partners, and I'm learning all the time.

Outside work, I enjoy traveling – more specifically, flying. I once flew from Hong Kong via New York to London, just to experience a same-day roundtrip on the Concorde before the fleet retired. I was back in Hong Kong within 4 days, after 50 hours in the air, and I thoroughly enjoyed the trip. That's just another reason I love the travel-intensive consulting industry.
