My first encounter with BCG was through its growth-share matrix, which was mentioned in my university textbook. I wanted to know more about the people who could come up with a framework that is so easy to understand but capable of generating such valuable business insights. I was also intrigued by an industry that seemed to offer so much variety and such a range of challenges. I joined BCG in April 2004, expecting to gain experience in a range of different industries, and to work with intelligent, creative people. My expectations have certainly been fulfilled. In my first 12 months in consulting, my work has ranged from a project on risk management for small-medium enterprises to a market assessment of the credit guarantee industry in China. My clients have included a state-owned Taiwan bank looking to significantly improve its business model and a top-tier US fund house looking to enter the market. All of this work was done in teams with friendly, creative and helpful colleagues. Working in a BCG team is a wonderful experience. At the same time, the consulting life is very fast-paced and demanding. Fortunately, the BCG culture includes respect for work-life balance. Thanks to that, I have been able to maintain my hobbies of reading, swimming, jogging, and traveling. If you're looking for a place that offers opportunities to learn and excel in a friendly and comfortable environment, BCG is definitely a good choice. |
